When it rains in Melbourne it fucking sucks. Almost as much as New Facebook.
So it rained today. Srsly.
Me and Jess went to her uni and dropped off books. There was like- a billion buildings to this University, all built at different times and stuff, so like- there was an old building which had Hogwarts-like hallways and junk and then there's the weird art-deco buildings and the tenement-style buildings and all and all it is a bizarre eclectic collection. I liked to see it. She handed in an essay, too. Something about Latin American forms of fascism I reckon.
It was pouring rain by the point we got off at Parliament station, and we were to walk to the Museum. We pretty much got soaked through by the time we got there. Yech. The museum was cool. I got in trouble 'cause apparently I was taking photos in an anti-photo-area. There was lots of taxidermy. Pretty much every animal you could think of was stuffed. A little upsetting. Very good taxidermy, though. They have this horse, Phar Lap, which, according to the educational video, 'every Australian loved'. He's the Australian equivalent of Seabiscuit. He was poisoned with arsenic and died really young. Poor thing. They had a big exhibit on the Aboriginals here. Their art is way different than the First Nations stuff at home. Quite interesting. There was this weird video of a stereotypical Australian man talking to an Aboriginal man there, with the Aboriginal man explaining all the ways the Australian guy can fuck up the telling of the aboriginal histories. Including their policy of hiding specific artifacts from women and children, apparently. Which- well- perhaps I shan't go too into details on my opinions on that, but if a White guy was trying to uphold a tradition of condescending sexism, he probably wouldn't get away with it. Just saying.
We were gonna go shopping or something because it's Jess' brothers' birthday tomorrow and she needs to get him a present. (She has a brother and a sister too- I was unaware until getting here!) We totally chickened out though 'cause it was cold and rainy and crappy. We did, however, stop to get hot chocolate at this OUTSTANDING hot chocolate place... it was so good! Unfortunately we'd ordered one that included chili in the recipe and it was a bit too spicy for us, but it really makes me want to go there again. It was just delicious.
We came back here to Jess' place after and her mom served steamed corn and broccoli, roasted potatoes & Carrots, and this really tasty chicken stuff. I thought it was delicious. Then we watched this weird show called 'We Can Be Heroes' where this one comedian plays five different people who are all in the running for the 'Australian of the Year Award'. It was really good, we watched the whole series in one go, all 6 episodes, and I laughed more than a few times. I liked both his women characters the best.
Right! We're going to a really stupidly early morning market tomorrow so bed is mostly necessary. Turrah!
